Silvercup

Taken from a moving #7 train on the elevated tracks near Queensboro Plaza. Silvercup used to be a bakery. Today it's a film/TV studio (largest in New York). The Silvercup sign remains pretty much as it was in the bakery days. The bottom was changed to say "Studios." The roadways in the foreground are access ramps leading to/from the 59th Street Bridge (left background).

Flushing, Queens

Looking east from the Willets Point station of the #7 Flushing line. BJs and the two apartment towers may be the back side of Sky View Parc (a mixed-use complex still under construction in Flushing Queens).

From a June 2004 photo (Minolta Dimage Z1 camera)... a special railfan subway train of Redbirds, World's Fair & other vintage cars passing thru the station at Woodside, Queens. A combination of filters was applied to create the cartoon effect

All that remains of Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets since 1964... followed by the new Citi Field, nearing completion right next door. Just 64 days to opening game!

Getting ready for the US Open - new US Flags and colorful US Open banners line the walk between the subway and the Tennis Center. That's not the Tennis Center in the background - it's Shea Stadium on the left and Citi Field (still under construction) on the right.

Two mosaics at Flushing Meadows-Carona Park, the site of two New York City World's Fairs in 1939 and 1964. The first is "Robert Moses" (by Andy Warhol). Moses was one of the key people behind the 1964-65 fair. The second mosaic is "Fountain of the Planets" (I don't know who the artist is).

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town. Their rail cars are stored along the Amtrak/Long Island Railroad tracks in Long Island City, Queens. The first photo was taken from the LIRR station and the 2nd thru the window of a moving subway train.

2 or 1 - Recent visit to check on the progress at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens. The closeup below shows two circular staircases on either side of what I believe to be the main entrance.

2 for 1 Subway Art. There's a series hanging in the Bowling Green subway station. The two shown here are of Castle Clinton and the tall ship Peking, docked at the South Street Seaport, both of which are a short walk from the station.

Taken from a moving subway train (you can see the reflection of the windows on the opposite side of the train)... This is the new Citi Field stadium, under construction. When completed, it will be the new home of the New York Mets. Honestly, I haven't yet decided what's of more interest in this photo - the stadium under construction or the junkyards in the foreground (hehehe).

I used to love driving out to JFK International Airport to watch the planes take off and land. Back in the days before hijackings and terrorist attacks there were even observation decks where visitors could get up close to the action. Today, about the closest you can get to a plane without actually flying somewhere is the AirTrain which loops around JFK's terminals.

The trip home from JFK Int'l Airport took me over the Williamsburg Bridge by subway. This is a photo from the front window of the train, approaching the bridge on the Brooklyn side. The blurry area of the photo is caused by "scratchiti" on the window. The domed building on the left is the former Williamsburg Savings Bank. It's now an HSBC bank branch.
