The "L" line (8th Ave & 14th St., Manhattan to Canarsie, Brooklyn) is the first in the NYC subway system proposed for fully-automated operation (i.e. no humans driving or opening/closing doors). While that's probably still years away, we now have signs in each station along this line displaying how long it will be for the next two trains to arrive. The 2 minute wait for the next train turned out to be accurate!

I was photographing an apartment interior today. It was empty except for this old thing sitting on the floor. I can't remember when I last saw a rotary dial telephone, still connected and in use. I got to thinking there must be a whole generation of youngsters out there who've never seen one of these.
