Old Railroad Bridge

I recently came across what remains of this old railroad bridge in the Hudson River at Riverside Park near W. 69th Street. The bridge was formerly a transfer bridge on the New York Central Railroad, allowing rail cars to transfer onto barges to cross the river. This site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Waterfall

Something different at my fave billboard (23rd St. & Park Ave). Once again, I caught the painters in the act of changing the billboard. This time they painted windows onto the facade with the added touch of what appears to be torrents of water pouring out of the painted-on windows.

Home Run

Opening day at Citi Field. The NY Mets home run apple, a long-time fixture at the old Shea Stadium, now has a new home greeting arriving fans outside Citi Field

Brickwork

The blue tarps covering brick repairs create some visual interest on what are otherwise very plain-looking buildings. These are LaGuardia houses along Madison Street, named after mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia who was instrumental in creating the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA built and continues to manage these apartments.

Red Trees

I don't know if these are considered to be tiny trees or giant shrubs. But their reddish color caught my attention at the southwestern corner of Stuyvesant Town.

At the southern end of Union Square - at 14th Street near Broadway - there's this building that has a weird clock on the front that blows out smoke.

This building is built out over the East River. I'm not sure what it's used for or what that room is up on the roof. But, I always think of a ship when I pass by.

La Plaza Cultural

Building covered by netting imprinted with an image of the facade beneath. At a quick glance, looks to me like a bottle of vodka!

2 for 1 - since I haven't posted in a while. The first is deliberately deceptive. It looks like we had a lot of snow. The buildings are across the East River along the Williamsburg (Brooklyn) waterfront. The snow here on the Manhattan side of the river was actually man-made, for an upcoming Snow Boarding Contest on Feb 5 at East River Park (Houston Street & FDR Drive). The 2nd photo shows the ramp that was built (on freight containers) for the event.
