Waking - by Gilbert & George

Taken about a month ago at the High Line in the Meatpacking / Chelsea area of Manhattan. There's always some interesting art on this billboard.

TTW - Come One, Come Fun

There is a 1 or 2 block stretch of Houston Street, around Lafayette, with a couple of large billboards. This was taken through the window of a M21 crosstown bus that was caught up in a massive stop-and-go traffic jam around sunset this past Friday. Nolita, Manhattan.

Dishonored Taxis

From October - near Prince Street in the SoHo/Nolita area of lower Manhattan, NYC. I was playing with some new software trying to get a subtle HDR look without using multiple exposures. The 2nd photo is straight from the camera (with just some perspective correction) for comparison

Waterfall

Something different at my fave billboard (23rd St. & Park Ave). Once again, I caught the painters in the act of changing the billboard. This time they painted windows onto the facade with the added touch of what appears to be torrents of water pouring out of the painted-on windows.

iPad Ad

These ads are all over Manhattan - on every corner at some intersections. And, for the record, it's not that comfortable to use for long periods of time in the position shown in this ad. My left hand starts cramping from supporting the weight after about 1/2 hour.

CK Billboard

The current ad at the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) Calvin Klein billboard on E. Houston Street. I usually shoot this from a passing taxi or bus. Today I was on foot.

The Funnest iPod Ever ??

Walking down the stairs at the subway station at 8th Ave & W. 14th street, one comes face to face with this billboard for the iPod Touch. Is "funnest" even a word?

Gramercy Roofscape

Water tank and TV antennas (what? no cable?) on a rooftop in the Gramercy/Flatiron area. Note the painted billboard with "MHT" in the black arrow. It points down to where a branch of the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. bank once stood. Back in the early 90's MHT merged with Chemical Bank, which later merged with Chase Manhattan Bank, which merged with J.P. Morgan, which merged with Bank One, which last year merged with Washington Mutual.... who's next?

Silvercup

Taken from a moving #7 train on the elevated tracks near Queensboro Plaza. Silvercup used to be a bakery. Today it's a film/TV studio (largest in New York). The Silvercup sign remains pretty much as it was in the bakery days. The bottom was changed to say "Studios." The roadways in the foreground are access ramps leading to/from the 59th Street Bridge (left background).

"Stop the Violence"

Chico is back and unveiled a new mural on Houston Street near Avenue B to get the message out to stop the violence - after some highly-publicized incidents of violence in recent months.

Tracks

Courthouse Square elevated subway station on the 7 line in Long Island City. I'm glad I don't live in that apartment building just beyond the station. It must be quite noisy. But, OTOH, if cable TV service were to go out, I could just bring a lawn chair up to the roof and watch the giant Fresh Direct electronic billboard a few blocks away:-)
