Grand Street

Grand Street (near Allen Street) around sundown. Twenty years ago the store signs were mostly English and Hebrew. Twenty years from now the language on the signs will probably change again. That's been the pattern of the Lower East Side for decades as new waves of immigrants pass through, each adding to the diversity of this great neighborhood.

Chinatown

Interesting building in Chinatown at the corner of Canal Street and Centre Street. Part or all of this building may be vacant. There are a number of broken windows, especially on the 3rd level.

Building Collapse - Continued

More from the site of the supermarket fire / Building Collapse in Chinatown, at East Broadway and Pike Street. The building which originally collapsed is completely torn down (left). The building to the right of that is now being torn down. There are reportedly at least 3 other buildings whose foundations were damaged and may be torn down.
