Cooper - Astor - Union
Streetscape at Cooper Square, looking north past Astor Place towards Union Square. A wide variety of building styles, sizes, colors.
The red-brick buildings lit by late afternoon sun at the center are two of the 4 towers that were originally known as Zeckendorf Towers. Today they are known by two other names: 1 Irving Place and 1 Union Square East (but they'll always be Zeckendorf Towers to me). Peeking from behind those towers is the top of the Empire State Building further uptown at E. 34th Street.

Union Square East at Night
The last couple of times I photographed the "Zeckendorf Towers" apartment buildings one or more of the lighted pyramids at the top were dark. This time they were all lit although the 4th tower is hidden from this angle. The condo was renamed One Union Square East and the address was changed to One Irving Place but I still call it Zeckendorf Towers. The building that's partially visible at the left with the blue lighting at the top is Two Irving Place and is the home of NYC's power company, Consolidated Edison (Con Ed).

Top Floor Basement
I couldn't resist when I saw "basement" lit up at the top of the building. This wall of windows lights up the south end of Union Square.

Fall Colors
Still no sign of fall in the city - except in this beautiful store window display on E. 12th Street near University Place. I don't even know what type of business this is. I was in too much of a rush to stop and investigate. The lettering on the window says "Windows in Progress."

Seeing buildings like this always makes me wonder what it must have been like to be in those rooms at the top, back in the day when the space was used as originally intended. Today, most (maybe all) of this building at the north end of Union Square is a Barmes & Noble book store.

Union Square Skyline
Looking north over Union Square park. The 3 towers in the distance are (l to r) Empire State Building, One Madison Park (back side), and the old MetLife clock tower. The ESB is about 1/2 mile farther from the camera than the other two (which are across the street from each other.)

Zeckendorf Towers
The apartment complex originally known as Zeckendorf Towers, now also known as One Irving Place and One Union Square. This photo was taken about 1 hour before sundown. I didn't notice the moon at the left of the towers until I got home and viewed the pic on my computer screen.

Smokin'
At the southern end of Union Square - at 14th Street near Broadway - there's this building that has a weird clock on the front that blows out smoke.
