East Houston Street, still cleared of all traffic and parked cars for President Obama's motorcade last evening.

Concrete Canyon
Looking uptown along Park Avenue South. The Met Life building in the background was originally known as the Pan Am Building (Pan American World Airways) when it was built in the early 1960s.

North of Grand
Looking north of Grand Street between Norfolk and Essex Streets. The old Seward Park High School building (left) now houses 5 smaller high schools instead. The taller building beyond the school is the new dormitory for the School of Visual Arts, at Delancey Street. And, the crazy-angled building between the two tall ones at the right is Blue, also at Delancey Street.

Sugar Rush
Jet skier rushing past the old Domino Sugar factory on the East River. This was taken from the newly reopened promenade along the Lower East Side waterfront, which had been closed for repairs since 2001.

Carmine Street
What NYC street scene would be complete without at least one yellow taxi somewhere? The church at the left is Our Lady of Pompeii.

New York's Bravest
FDNY responded to an automobile accident where the car ended up on the sidewalk, knocking over a traffic light. I felt sorry for the guys in the heavy rubber suits standing out under the hot sun. The temperature was close to 100 degrees.
