Contrast of 50's era public housing to new luxury apartment towers. The public housing, just behind the Williamsburg Bridge approach road in the foregroud, is NYCHA's Baruch Houses, Lower East Side, Manhattan. The new towers in the distance are Northside Piers and The Edge, across the river in the northern end of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Williamsburg Bridge carries vehicular and subway traffic plus pedestrians and cyclists between the Lower East Side and Williamsburg.

Under the El
This was taken underneath the elevated subway tracks in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn (just west of Coney Island) back in May. The shadows and rust on the underside of the structure caught my attention as I was crossing the street.

No. 1 Train
Southbound #1 subway train leaving the 125th Street & Broadway station in Harlem. The train comes up for air at this one station, then quickly heads back underground. According to the folks at NYC Subway.org, "Broadway at this point is in a deep valley and the transit designers had a choice of a viaduct or deep tunnel with steep grades at either end. They chose a viaduct to allow the subway to remain relatively level."

Flushing Tracks
Elevated subway tracks on the No. 7 Flushing line looking east from the 111th Street station. The center tracks lead down and to the right - to the Corona rail yard, where the Flushing trains live. The 111th Street station is a local stop. Express service bypasses this station via the "flyover" tracks above.

Track Walking
Was on a moving 7 Train trying to snap the double-decker rail cars (LIRR?) we were passing over. Instead, I caught some workers walking along the west-bound tracks.

The Funnest iPod Ever ??
Walking down the stairs at the subway station at 8th Ave & W. 14th street, one comes face to face with this billboard for the iPod Touch. Is "funnest" even a word?
