A "cool" way to get around town. I was using a more modest method of travel - a NYC Transit bus. This car pulled alongside us at traffic light.

A rare sight in the heart of Manhattan - a gas station - considered by many to be a waste of valuable real estate.

I used to love driving out to JFK International Airport to watch the planes take off and land. Back in the days before hijackings and terrorist attacks there were even observation decks where visitors could get up close to the action. Today, about the closest you can get to a plane without actually flying somewhere is the AirTrain which loops around JFK's terminals.

3-for-1. The first photo below was taken yesterday while cat-sitting for a friend. The low-rise art deco building in the foreground is Amalgamated Dwellings, built around 1930. About 6 hours after this photo was taken, a fire gutted two apartments in the rear. Luckily, nobody was injured and the building suffered no major damage (other than the two gutted apartments). The 2nd photo shows boarded windows after the fire. The 3rd photo shows some of New York's Bravest investigating on the roof this afternoon.

What a difference a day makes. Well, really 2 days. The first photo is from today. The 2nd one is from just 2 days ago.

World AIDS Day. According to Wikipedia, "World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection." Volunteers at City Hall Park spent the day reading the names of 100,000 people who died of AIDS. But, nobody seemed to be listening.

Some of the last remaining leaves in the neighborhood. These trees will probably be bare by Monday.
