Roof tops of the Hillman Co-op, Lower East Side, Manhattan. These buildings were originally built around the late 1940s by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America as part of a larger urban renewal / slum clearance program. It's one of the 4 housing cooperatives along the eastern end of Grand Street, collectively known as Cooperative Village (Co-op Village).

Blizzard Dig-Out
The Blizzard of Dec 26-27, 2010. It was a really intense storm that went on for over 18 hours and even included thundersnow (snow + thunder + lightning) for a while. It left just over 20 inches of snow that's been pushed around by snow plows and blown around by Mother Nature. It will take a while to dig out of this mess.

Post-Christmas Blizzard
3 or 1: First: at the height of the blizzard. The little plow trying to clear the sidewalk across the street is just no match for the snow. The bigger street plows aren't having much success keeping the streets clear, either. Second: taken during a brief lull in the snow and wind, about an hour later. Third: plow-equipped tractor trying to clear the sidewalk of snow

Turning Green
It seems that with every passing hour, there's more green on the trees. They appear to follow some schedule, with some turning green sooner than others - just like in autumn, where some trees always manage to hang onto their leaves longer. I love watching the seasons change!

Spring
There are many things that mark the beginning of spring each year. On our block, this tree is the most visible.

Stormy Day
The weather was miserable yesterday with heavy rains and strong winds, though the temperature was spring-like. Looking west on Grand Street from Lewis Street.

Snow
The park behind my apartment building the morning after the so-called "blizzard of 2009" - it was hardly a blizzard here in the city. But, we did get about 12 inches of snow overnight.

Almost Gone
I've been unable to get around this week due to back pain. But, I managed to walk around the block today and caught the last of the leaves on these trees. They'll be all gone in a few days - at least for this year.

Big, heavy, wet snow flakes falling on the Lower East Side. The temperature on the ground was above freezing so there was no accumulation. We've had surprisingly little snow this season.

Urban Garden - take a lot of concrete ( a whole lot), and put it around some shrubs with some trees around the concrete... and this is what you get.
