Huh? Snow?
The weather forecasters told us we'd see a mix of snow/rain this morning followed by snow beginning around 6pm and continuing overnight - dropping another 10 inches of the white stuff on us. I think they got their AM and PM mixed up. We've had moderate snow falling since around 8am and it's been steady. As of yesterday, we were within 15 inches of the record for snowiest winter in NYC.

Snow Crushing
We've had mountains of snow (mostly at intersections) created by plows during and after the big blizzard back in December. Freezing temperatures kept the snow frozen for much of the past 3 weeks. Now that the temperature is above freezing, DSNY is on a mission to break down these mountains. One truck pushes a bunch of snow into the middle of the street. The following truck then spreads the snow over a wider area. Passing traffic does the rest of the job by crushing it until it eventually disappears. Magic.

Slushfest
Today has been a miserable day, weather-wise. It started with a dusting of snow which put a fresh coating on top of the snow that still remains from the Dec 26 snowpocalypse (yeah, there's been snow on the ground for about 21 consecutive days). Snow turned to freezing rain, then rain. The good news is the temperature is now above freezing and the rain is slowly washing away the snow.

Silver Towers
Developer Larry Silverstein's new Silver Towers at the far west side of Manhattan near 42nd Street. These buildings look very different than the Silver Towers owned by New York University about two miles south near their Greenwich Village campus.
