The Willy-B
Closeup of the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge. That's a steep incline on footpath on this side. My grandmother is said to have walked across this bridge in a hurricane once back in the '50s.

Tracks
Courthouse Square elevated subway station on the 7 line in Long Island City. I'm glad I don't live in that apartment building just beyond the station. It must be quite noisy. But, OTOH, if cable TV service were to go out, I could just bring a lawn chair up to the roof and watch the giant Fresh Direct electronic billboard a few blocks away:-)

Roebling's View
This is about as close as I could get to capturing the view that Washington Roebling must have had from his house at 110 Columbia Heights (Brooklyn). He oversaw construction of the Brooklyn Bridge as Chief Engineer and monitored the progress from his window while confined to his house due to illness. He would have been about 4 floors higher than this vantage point and none of the buildings in today's photo would have been there in the late 1880s. I'm reading The Great Bridge, by David McCullough - about the construction of the bridge. It's an amazing story!
I'm told the land being cleared in the foreground will be part of a new waterfront park called Brooklyn Bridge Park.
